City of Venue – Florianópolis

Florianópolis is the capital city of Santa Catarina state in the Southern region of Brazil located on an turistic island which is surrounded by several small islands. The main island has 42 paradisiac beaches and it is considered one of the best surfing towns in the world. The economy of Florianópolis is heavily based on information technology, tourism, and services.

 
   

The University

Air Access

Located in the southern part of the Island, the Hercilio Luz International Airport is only 20 minutes from downtown (11 km), main hotels, Convention Center of Florianópolis and 40 minutes (40 km) from hotels in the northern part of the Island. It is the 14th busiest airport in the country. Due to the excellent weather conditions of its geographic location, the airport has recorded a high level of operability over the years; above 99%. With such movement the current passenger terminal has become modest for the growth of Florianópolis, so the city is set to gain a new airport.

Florianópolis is served by major Brazilian airlines: TAM, GOL, AVIANCA and AZUL. Its route network has more than 70 landings and 71 domestic takeoffs and 4 international flights daily. The city is only 50 minutes from São Paulo, the main connection point for domestic flights. With three airports, Guarulhos, Congonhas and Viracopos, 28 daily direct flights depart without connections or stopovers, to Florianópolis. There are also 05 direct flights that depart from Rio de Janeiro (Galeão), 03 direct flights from Brasilia and 06 direct flights from Porto Alegre.

In Greater Florianópolis, which consists of the capital and 12 more surrounding cities, there are approximately 45,300 beds that are divided into 15,000 housing units in 689 lodging facilities. Florianópolis has one of the largest hotel parks in Brazil, according to IBGE data; it is the fourth Brazilian capital with the highest number of beds. Florianópolis has about 535 lodging facilities that have 12,700 housing units and 38,500 beds. This hotel park offers all standards of accommodation, ranging from charming hostels to 3-5 star hotels. Of these 38,500 beds, 40% are categorized as a higher standard of accommodation, 65% are located in regions of beaches and 35% in the city center.
